In the past few years, all over Europe forestry has been experiencing a strong tendency towards professionalism, a process that is still continuing today. For training centres in the forestry sector, this implies that highly technical trainings should incorporate more and more ingredients of modern-day management techniques. The ‘Learn for Work’ project on competency profiles for forest workers is an example of this.
During this 3-day international congres for forestry training centres, several speakers will give their vision on the new challenges in forestry education. After each keynote session, there will be time for discussion. Furthermore, the Leonardo agency will elaborate on the conditions for new projects. Together with the participants, we will be looking for good project proposals and new partnerships.

Inverde: Training Centre for Forestry, Nature, Park and Green Space Management
Inverde vzw was established in March 1992 by the Flemish Community and two non-governmental organisations. The work field of Inverde vzw is very broad and the centre addresses the forestry, nature and park sector as well as the large public. Inverde organises specific and specialised trainings, additional training and retraining of officials, private companies and individuals concerning forestry, nature and park conservation. Inverde also organises the formation of forest wardens.
Location of the congress
The congress will be organised in Groenendaal, the heart of the Sonian Forest. The Sonian Forest now conveys the image of impressive, majestic beech trees. There are sometimes compared to the columns of a “green‿ cathedral. The oldest trees are more than 200 years old. Located just next to the congress centrum is the Groenendaal arboretum. The aboretum’s magnificent treasures include the giant trees of over 100 year old from everywhere in the world.
