Learn For Work

Inverde is the promoter of the European Project Learn For Work. This project was started following the need to develop a European profile and test for forestry workers, valid for all EU member states. Presently, hardly any agreements have been made on the competencies of these people. Consequently, it is difficult to map the level the students obtain. The only characteristic all countries have in common is the importance of the practice component. Moreover, it is difficult to assess the competencies of the new students. Forestry workers gain a lot of experience and skills through a non formal and informal learning process that is typical for the sector. It is however, important to accredit these acquired competencies as well.

The project’s aim for training forestry workers is to make an inventory of the existing evaluation methods, to analyse these methods and to develop an integrated approach for evaluation. This approach must allow to measure the workers’ competencies disregard their education and to enhance the transparency of the qualification system.

The project results in a method giving a number of tools for the assessment of forestry workers’ competencies. The method is based on a mutual minimum frame for the competence profile. It allows the transfer of diplomas and certificates and it makes the appreciation of non formal and informal learning possible. More specifically it is a European position and learning profile, a tested method for measuring in order to determine acquired competencies and to implement a scenario for the use of the measuring methodology.
