Education and information for public fishery in Flanders

Since August 2000 Inverde has been in charge of the project Education and information for public fishery. This project is financed by the Visserijfonds (Fishery Fund).

Karina Abeels, a member of the Inverde team, has been working as head of Communications for the Visserijfonds (Fishery Fund) since the beginning of September 2000.

The projects’ objective is to guarantee a permanent communication between fishermen, the public service, the fellow recreational users and the public at large, as stipulated in the Charter van het Visserijfonds (Charter of the Fishery Fund).

The goal is achieved by:

  • the creation of a permanent forum and coordination centre for information and communication on public fishery;
  • the improvement of the existing means and channels of information dissemination;
  • the initiation of new relating initiatives; the logistical support to the initiatives of the provincial Fishery Committees;
  • the sensitization of the angler to follow up and participate in the fishery policy (respect legislation, co- management).
